CAPITAL AREA CLASSIC 2018
As a different way to approach a tournament setting, the Capital Area Classic is moving to a new format that creates the rare opportunity for true development in a game setting. In response to the proliferation of tournaments that focus on winning at all costs, the Capital Area Classic has changed its approach to allow for maximum developmental opportunities.
The Capital Area Classic is a soccer weekend that is designed to enhance opportunities for teams to focus on develop rather than winning or results.
All teams will have 3 games guaranteed – 2 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday. However, scores will not be kept for games and there will not be any standings. Because each game is officially a friendly, there will not be any champions or participation trophies. In order to create the best environment for development, each team will be allowed to have 1 coach on the field during the game.
The Capital Area Classic will also work to develop young referees. Each game at the Capital Area Classic may have only one referee, but there will be experienced referees on site to provide guidance before, during and after games for the referees.
The Capital Area Classic will offer a developmental opportunity for teams, players and referees.
The Capital Area Classic is not for teams who are looking to boost State Cup resumes, obtain GotSoccer points or collect trophies.
Please note: Because the Capital Area Classic is set up as a fully development soccer experience, no scheduling requests will be taken.
